Power Trading

Our goal is to assist European power markets by taking excess power supply and move it to where power is currently undersupplied.

What is power trading?

The power trading team in Global Risk Management specialises in power trading throughout Europe. Focusing on short to medium term power-contracts in intraday, day-ahead and forward power markets.

Europe is seeing a green energy transition where renewable energy sources are becoming a larger part of the energy mix day-by-day. Since large scale energy storage (batteries) is not yet feasible, this transition creates both opportunities for power traders and problems for energy regulators as renewable (wind & solar) power production is much less predictable.

Our goal is to assist European power markets by taking excess power supply and move it to where power is currently undersupplied. By using our market insight, data modelling and latest weather forecasts we help balance and provide liquidity in European power grids.

In addition to trading physical power Global Risk Management also trades interconnector capacity rights.

Global Risk Management employs a team of senior power traders with extensive experience from some of the biggest commodity trading houses in Europe.

Definition of power

Electrical power is measured in watts or kilowatts and is usually produced by electric generators. Power cannot – yet – be stored in large quantities and therefore trading is carried out using either short-term trades or long-term agreements based on expected power production.
